Romeo & Juliet at The Joburg Theatre

For its second season at Joburg Theatre this year, Joburg Ballet presents Romeo and Juliet from 15 – 24 July for ten performances only. Inspired by Shakespeare’s tragic story of a passionate feud between two families in Renaissance Italy, the sweeping choreography is set to a magnificent score by Sergei Prokofiev.

Joburg Ballet artistic director Iain MacDonald said: “This year is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and many ballets inspired by his plays will be staged around the world to celebrate his enduring legacy. With magnificent new sets generously sponsored by Friends of the Ballet, sumptuous Renaissance-inspired costumes and Prokofiev’s evocative music, Romeo and Juliet perfectly captures the all the romance, drama and tragedy of Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed love.”
